SVG Color Slider

Here’s another experiment using Javascript and SVG. I created this a while ago but never got around to posting it. Almost every element of this RGB color slider is generated with Javascript using the Raphael JS library. The only exceptions are the RGB value inputs.

Javascript and SVG

This blog has so far been photography focused, but as my bio page states, I’m also a graphic designer and frontend web developer, so it makes sense to post about my other interests. This post, if you couldn’t tell from the title, is about web development.

In my free time lately, I’ve been exploring the vector graphics capabilities of modern browsers, namely the SVG (scaleable vector graphics) format. The pie chart above is the result of my first experiment, using the Raphael JSย Javascript library to dynamically generate and interact with SVG. I’m impressed so far, especially because Raphael makes vector graphics work in IE 7 and 8, which do not support SVG.

Water Fountain

I had fun photographing the fountain on Wheaton College’s campus. The fountain isn’t much to look at, and it’s rarely turned on, but a longer lens and fast shutter made it much more interesting.

Chicago Weather

I stepped outside my apartment to see the severe thunderstorm the Weather Channel promised was on its way. Unfortunately, the heart of the storm missed my neighborhood, but there were some pretty interesting clouds. It was only 11:30 am but with the cloud cover it felt like dusk. I used my phone’s Photosynth app to take this panorama.

Photo Blog

In my continuing quest to develop a robust portfolio website, I’ve decided to add a photo blog to this site. While I like the simplicity of the photography and design galleries I created for this site, I’ve realized I need another means for sharing my work. My portfolio galleries highlight the work that I want to share with visitors at first glance, but this blog will allow me to post less complete/polished/related work. I’ll make no promises on the regularity of posts, and I’ll likely continue to tweak and develop this section, but I have a few images from the past month that I’ll share to get this blog rolling. Enjoy.
